Christian Fellowship at St. John's Lafayette
We love to get together at St. John’s, and we don’t leave that to chance. From coffee hour to foyer groups, we create and enjoy opportunities for fellowship. Coffee hour after each service gives us a chance to visit with each other, and especially with those visiting St. John's. And we have really good coffee! Sunday mornings are just the beginning of our Christian Fellowship. here are a few other examples:
The Young Adult Group meets regularly for games and fellowship (see the church calendar for events).
St. John’s Book Discussions are usually held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Changes in this pattern due to holidays, etc, are announced well in advance. Readers gather at 7:00 p.m. in the Commons and enjoy discussion of a book they’ve agreed in advance to read. Informal leadership is rotated within the group and on occasion a guest speaker is invited. The sessions are designed so that you may attend one session…or all! Discussion lasts about an hour. Each year’s book list can be found in St. John’s Commons . Those interested in the book discussions can be assured that no one, not even the rector, dictates the reading list!
We hold our "Shrove Tuesday" pancake suppers on the Sunday before, with a Mardi Gras theme and a jazz band and children’s Mardi Gras parade with floats they build at the dinner.
Quiet Days are opportunities for reflection offered to the community. In 2014 we held five such events, including our observance of World Labyrinth Day in May.
