HUNGER HIKE
Sunday, September 20

This year's Hunger Hike is scheduled for Sunday, September 20. It's an annual fundraiser for Lafayette Urban Ministry (LUM), Food Finders Food Bank, and the Haiti Project of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center.

The celebration will be at Columbian Park in Lafayette; details TBA.

UPDATE/CORRECTION: There will be a physical Hike at Columbian Park on Hike Day. This year's change of venue (from our usual location at Riehle Plaza) is due to the current construction work on the Myers Pedestrian Bridge.

Once again, Good Shepherd and St. John's will be joining forces to raise donations. You can make a donation or join our team here. Our team goal this year is $8,000. The overall goal for this year's Hike is $110,000.

LINCOLN LITTLE FREE PANTRY

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.”  Matthew 25:35-40

When SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Benefit Program) were adjusted this year, many qualified people were left in limbo while they reapplied. Our neighbors are hungry and their needs will increase this year as grocery and personal goods costs rise. Won’t you join the group from St John's that has been filling the pantry on north 9th street for two years? A basket is in the commons to collect the following needed items: tinned food with pop up lids, shelf stable proteins, shelf stable milk, toiletries and household paper goods, fun items such as snacks and seasonal items.

New Yarn Circle at St. John’s! Calling all knitters and crocheters! Join us for a new monthly Yarn Circle to connect, chat, and craft together. Bring whatever personal project you’re working on, or join in optional charity items for neighbors in need. All skill levels welcome!

BIBLE STUDY: FROM MOUNTAIN TO MISSION
Tuesday, October 6, 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Join us this fall for an eight-week Bible study exploring some of Scripture’s most important encounters with God on the mountain. From Abraham and Moses to Elijah and Jesus, we will discover how mountains become places of encounter, revelation, transformation, and mission. Most importantly, we will ask what these stories mean for our own lives: What do we encounter on the mountain, and how are we called to live differently when we come back down?

The study begins Tuesday, October 6, and meets each Tuesday through November 24, with sessions offered at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. All are welcome, and no previous Bible study experience is necessary.

With the waning days of summer behind us, take a pause in activity this fall to treat yourself to a day of rest and reflection. Come join us in the St. John's Common Area on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 10:00-1:00 p.m. The topic will be The Second Greatest Commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself." Come see what God's invitation is for you as we explore its meaning. Bring a journal and something to write with; however, if you forget, there will be some materials available. THEOLOGY ON TAP RETURNS THIS FALL
Beginning Wednesday, October 14th

Join us for Theology on Tap, a gathering for good conversation, thoughtful questions, and fellowship as we explore the intersection of faith and everyday life. St. John’s Episcopal Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) invite you to bring your questions, your perspectives, and perhaps a friend as we wrestle together with some of life’s biggest questions.

We will gather at Nine Irish Brothers in Lafayette from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of October, November, and December.

Our October conversation will explore EVIL. Why does evil exist? Where is God in the midst of suffering and injustice? How have Christians understood evil throughout the centuries, and what does our faith call us to do in response?

You do not need to be a theologian, Bible expert, or even certain about what you believe. Theology on Tap is a space for honest questions, respectful conversation, different perspectives, and meaningful community.

Come thirsty for conversation. Bring your questions. All are welcome!
